Mariana Gómez Soto
Executive Secretary of the NorAmazon Alliance
Mariana Gómez Soto is an anthropologist and biologist with a Master’s degree in Social Anthropology and another in Holistic Sciences. Her work focuses on environmental issues, ecosystemic and sociocultural connectivity, territory, and socioenvironmental conflicts through an intercultural approach.
She is currently the Executive Secretary of the NorAmazon Alliance, a coalition of nine civil society organizations across five Amazonian countries working to safeguard ecosystemic and sociocultural connectivity. She additionally serves as a senior public policy analyst consultant at Earth Insight.
She worked at Gaia Amazonas for 11 years as Regional Advocacy Lead and Coordinator of the “Green Livelihoods Alliance” program, and has coalesced numerous collaborations across the Amazon to promote a systemic approach toward protecting the integrity of the region.
Mariana was one of the lead authors for Chapter 7 of the SPA 2025 Assessment Report on Socio-bioeconomies that connect healthy forests and flowing rivers with the collective well-being of Amazonian peoples, and now serves as a member of the panel's SSC.
