Join the Public Consultation on the SPA and ASL Youth-Led White Paper
The Science Panel for the Amazon (SPA) and the Amazon Sustainable Landscapes (ASL) Program —financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and led by the World Bank— invite you to participate in the public consultation for their joint Youth-Led White Paper, “Advancing sustainable development and ecological and biocultural connectivity in the Amazon through youth leadership among Indigenous Peoples, Local Communities and Afrodescendant Peoples.”
This White Paper is the result of a collaborative effort between the two institutions, led by young people from the Amazon. It was collectively written by 21 young members of the SPA Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) and the ASL Youth Group, bringing together diverse experiences, perspectives, and knowledge from across the region.
The writing process placed particular emphasis on creating space for oral contributions, especially from Indigenous youth authors. This approach recognized the importance of diverse forms of knowledge and participation and sought to ensure that young Amazonian voices remained at the center of the document throughout its development.
The White Paper explores key issues affecting the present and future of Amazonian youth, including:
The threats and pressures facing young people across the Amazon, including the social, environmental, economic, and cultural challenges that shape their opportunities and futures.
The enabling conditions needed to strengthen the role of Amazonian youth, reflecting on what is required to support their meaningful participation, leadership, access to opportunities, and ability to contribute to sustainable development and ecological and biocultural connectivity.
Key recommendations for stakeholders, identifying actions and conditions that can help strengthen the role of youth in shaping the future and sustainable development of the Amazon, with particular attention to Indigenous Peoples, Local Communities and Afrodescendant Peoples.
Your feedback will help strengthen this collective work and ensure that the White Paper reflects diverse perspectives, knowledge systems, and experiences from across the Amazon.
